How to Choose the Right Contractor

Do your research on them -  Check sites like Yelp, HomeAdvisor, Angie’s List, Google, and other review sites to see what ratings and comments passed clients have left for them.

Find out how long they have been in business including in your area -  Did they just start up a new business as a result of a natural disaster or have they been around for years?

Check for qualifications, certifications, and licensing.

Get estimates from multiple contractors to be sure that you are getting a fair price and that they are handling your claims, etc - properly.

Ask them how many projects like yours they have completed in the last year.

Ask them if your project will require a permit.

Ask them for references (don’t just rely on online reviews or even our site).

Ask them what types of insurance they carry (personal liability, worker’s compensation, property damage, etc.).

Ask them if they will be using subcontractors on the job.

DO NOT PAY CASH IN ADVANCE -  If they are asking for all of the cash upfront it’s probably an issue, limit your down payment.

Get a written contract for the work they will be performing.

Keep good records of before, after, and during the work the contractor is performing in case an issue or dispute arises.
